ENAK!

Malaysians are known for their enjoyment of good food...eating is a pastime enjoyed any time of day or night.

The various cultural groups that have made Malaysia home have all contributed to the diversity of offerings throughout Malaysia. Initially, one may be aware that there are Malaysian, Indian and Chinese food traditions. However, there is also variation within these traditions. Within Malay cuisine, each geographical region has its specialties, and some dishes are only available during certain holidays. Among the Indian offerings are the North Indian, South Indian and Muslim Indian options. Although the most popular Chinese food in Malaysia is Cantonese; Malaysian Chinese culinary traditions are influenced by various Chinese immigrant communities including the Hakka, Hokkiens, Teochews, and Foo Chows. Additionally, there are fusion traditions that have developed in Malaysia such as the Nyonya (Peranakan) and Kristao cuisines.

Enak means "delicious" in Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia. This section of the Malaysian Culture Group is for "foodies". Participants will meet once a month for lunch or dinner, to learn about and taste food from the diverse culinary traditions of Malaysia. From hawker stalls to historic eating establishments, there is much to experience in and around Kuala Lumpur.
