The MCG has its own library containing over 700 books on all kinds of subjects relating to South East Asia, Malaysia and novels for lighter reading as well as some DVDs.
The library is situated in the MVM (Museum Volunteers Malaysia) room at Muzium Negara, Jalan
Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
How to Use and Enjoy the Library

When visiting and borrowing for the first time, please proceed as follows:
1. Fill the brown envelope found in a box on the main table with your contact details - first name, surname, email address and handphone number. This brown envelope will contain your borrowers card;
2. Choose the book (s) you wish to borrow;
3. Fill in the date borrowed and the Dewey classification number (found on the side of the book), or the title;
4. Place that card inside the brown envelope and replace in box on main table under MCG.
5. To return - write return date on your borrowers card and place in returned books box.
The library is open whenever the Museum is open, which is almost every day of the year. An MVM librarian is there on Tuesday mornings from 10 -12. If anyone needs help and cannot be there on a Tuesday morning, then contact Aileen Olesen our MCG librarian, at
and she will be happy to show you around at a mutually convenient time.
Visitors can park in the Muzium Negara car park for a small fee RM 2.
Once parked, walk through the archway flanked by the two trains and keep walking straight pass the display of vehicles on your right (bullock carts, Proton, trishaw etc.,) until you reach a glass lift on your right. Directly opposite is a door which leads to the reception desk of the administrative offices of Muzium Negara. At the reception desk, show your MCG membership card, sign the visitor book, and proceed to the MVM room which is marked and is just as you go through the swing glass doors.
You are still welcome to use the library even if the room is being used by MVM members.
Finally, the library is very dependent on donations, so if you have any books you no longer want and that are relevant to the library, please pass them on to Aileen or drop them off at the library.
