Welcome to the MCG Explorer's group! Our aim is to get to know our environs more intimately by visiting new places, giving a different aspect to an already known area and meeting some of the interesting people who live in this fascinating city we call home.

Explorers meets on the second Monday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Dates are posted on the first page of the Explorers section of this website. Participants share the responsibility to plan and execute a monthly programme for fellow Explorers.

If you are interested in joining the Explorer Group, please read the summary of commitments for both the Programme Organizer and Participants below.

Programme Organizer's Guidelines

Much of how a programme is planned is left to the imagination of the organizers each month, but there are a few guidelines that need to be followed:

- Programme organizers usually work together on monthly programming in pairs, once a year.

- Using a professional travel agent or guide for a programme is not preferred; but they may be contacted as a source of information or ideas.

- Programming generally begins between 9:30am - 10:30am and finishes no later than mid-afternoon.

- Part of monthly programming should include lunch arrangements or restaurant suggestions.

- No later than two weeks prior to the programme, organizers must send out all information regarding the planned programme.

Information should include:

- A brief summary of the programme

- map or written directions

- car-pooling arrangements

- address of programme location and parking suggestions

- starting time

- contact mobile phone numbers of organizers

- special instructions: eg. are cameras allowed?

- dress requirements - modest dress is best in most cases (p> - any other pertinent information

- Each organizing team is responsible for collecting photos and writing a report on their programme. This report will be published in the MCG newsletter.

Participant’s Responsibilities:

- Each participant of Explorers is responsible for attending every programme unless there is an extremely good reason (ie; out of town, sickness…). Fellow Explorers work very hard to organize a programme, so everyone is expected to support each Explorer's effort! The yearly calendar is established at the annual planning meeting and posted on this website.

- Participants are expected to be considerate and reply in a timely fashion to e-mail and phone messages. Participants who will be out of town should inform the Explorers Convener and the programme organizer. On the rare occasion that a participant cannot attend a programme, the programme organizer should be notified.

- Each participant is expected to be a programme organizer once a year.
- As with all MCG events, guests must obtain permission prior to participating in a programme. The Explorers Convener and the appropriate programme organizer should be contacted to determine if visitors are able to attend the planned programme.

- The Explorers group usually has a waiting list, so participation below expectation by any member may lead to their replacement by someone on the waiting list.

The Explorers Convener is available for support and guidance on programme ideas and planning. With a little bit of creativity, sources for program ideas are endless. Often used sources include the feature articles from local newspapers, our MCG library located at the Muzium Negara, and a yearly planning meeting/”brain-storming” session.
