Book Club Commitment Rules
The aim of the book group is to read and discuss literature from South East Asia and the Asian region, both
fiction and non-fiction.
Meetings are held once a month and are on a set day to facilitate advance planning. Book group meetings are
enjoyable, providing a chance to learn more about local culture, and an opportunity to exchange views with others from many different ethnic backgrounds.
Your commitment as a member is:
1. To attend the monthly meeting.
2. To host a meeting at least once during the year.
3. To lead a discussion at least once a year.
4. To do a write-up for the MCG newsletter based on the book discussion you lead.
When you become a member you will be expected to fulfil the above commitments. Item 1 is a continuing commitment and if you are not going to attend a particular meeting you will be expected to offer an excuse. Failure to attend three meetings in succession without offering your reasons will result in the loss of your place. The other three commitments come with time - no-one expects you to 'jump in the deep end' - join us and see how it works, and then you can take your turn at hosting, leading and doing the write-up.
