Fareea Ma is the daughter of Rosey Ma who spoke to us earlier in the year on the subject of Chinese Muslims. She was born and bred in KL but studied at University in
Turkey. She has been involved in social welfare as a volunteer for more than twenty years and her desire to help people, animals and the environment found an outlet
with the setting up of WOX, Way Out Experiences, which is a social enterprise that manages volunteers on conservation programmes.
As she continues to use key endangered animals as a focal point, this talk will concentrate on the Orang-utan and its chances of survival. It is not commonly known
that the similarity of orang-tans to humans goes beyond the 96% shared DNA to the emotions, behaviour and intelligence. It is even more surprising to many that there
is a strong biodiversity link between the fungi, the orang-utans and the dipterocarps of the mysterious rain forest.
This presentation will focus on the orang-utan as a species most akin to mankind, running through its behaviour and ecology followed by the very real threats of
extinction it faces, the work conservationists carry out to save this ape and the challenges they face, ending with some thought-provoking suggestions on what we can
do as individuals.
